Teaching

My first medical teaching started in my Medical College after finishing my MBBS. I am always very keen on teaching and encouraging juniors for academic activities. Probably the best place I was in after that is the PGIMER, Chandigarh where I actively kept my interest in teaching junior and senior residents. I was lucky to get opportunity in the UK, where I have worked in teaching Hospitals and was actively involved in teaching under- and post-graduate students. I took part actively in preparing candidates for the MRCP Examination. One of my favourite method of teaching is Problem based learning, where juniors are encouraged to formulate their diagnosis and plan of approach. Here in Manipal Hospital I am teaching juniors on regular basis. I am the Tutor for Novo Nordisk Education Foundation in association with Australian Faculty from Newcastle University for the TUNNDA course in post-graduate study in Diabetes Mellitus.

Now I am actively involved in teaching MD postgraduates and Fellows in our department at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. Once a month I am involved in teaching including problem based learning, short cases, long cases and lecture for one full day at JJMMC, Davangere. Almost same I am doing at Annamalai University once in two months.

I have initiated a programme in Fellowship in Diabetes and Endocrinology where the training is done at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore and the fellowship is awarded by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. This is a post MD programme of one year duration. The training here is clinical approach based, both for in-patients and out-patients.
